The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific island countries can manage, control, and develop their valuable tuna fisheries now and into the future.

Based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, FFA’s 17-member nations are Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Since 1979, FFA has facilitated regional cooperation so that all Pacific countries benefit from the sustainable use of tuna – which currently contributes around USD $1 billion per annum to Pacific
economies through access revenue and contribution to GDP, and is important for many people’s livelihoods in the Pacific.

About the Opportunity

FFA now has a fantastic opportunity for a Fisheries Development Division Coordinator to join our Fisheries Development Division. This is a full-time role based in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands. This appointment is made on a three-year term and may be renewable for a further three years subject to availability of funds, ongoing need for the position and performance.

Reporting to the Director Fisheries Development, this position exists to-:

  • Manage the economic indicators data collection programme.
  • Assist in providing capacity-building, leadership and implementation support to market access and trade development processes
  • Provide financial and administrative support to the Division including contract management and reporting;

  1. Economics Indicator EIU-Database Registry
  1. Market Access and Trade Development
  2. Contracts and Administrative Operations
  3. Review of Financial Policies, Procedures and Capacity Building
  4. Finance and Reporting

About You

To be considered for this position you will have tertiary qualifications in Commerce or a degree in Economics, Accounting or similar field

You will need to have at least five years’ experience in office administrative tasks, experience of the procedures and reporting requirements of a least one of the major donors active in the Pacific Islands, and have five years’ experience supporting market access and trade development processes is regarded.

This role needs a candidate with a proficient use of Microsoft Office Programmes such as word and Excel). Your understanding of economic data collection and management is required and you’re your ability to communicate fluently both oral and written across the different stakeholders within and outside of FFA. Alongside, your ability to manage physical financial and time is necessary. Your ability to manage multiple activities at any given time and the ability to prioritise and delegate workloads as necessary in order to deliver work within tight deadlines. suite. You will need to bring your better undertaking and familiarity of National CAs’ needs and aspirations, in relations to fisheries-related market supply chain dynamics as well as Understanding of the major tuna supply chains in the pacific, Tuna stakeholders, and have demonstrated effective professional relationship with both the Industries and the National Competent Authorities.

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is offering the successful candidate a competitive salary of USD$45,226.00 – USD$63,685.00 p,a including Location and COLDA allowances, TAX-FREE for citizens of most countries.

An appointment offer is normally made at 85% of the salary grade for the position. Where justified the Director-General has the discretion to appoint at a higher level within the salary grades and ranges.

You will also have superannuation paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accident, life, medical & repatriation.

Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each contract year.

Accommodation assistance is also available.

Additionally, relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara.  Annual airfares back to your country of domicile will be provided. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary which will be paid on the completion of your 3-year contract.

On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year.
